Why Are There Discrepancies in Traffic Count Data?

Discrepancies in traffic count data can occur due to variations in methodologies, data sources, or the timing of updates between AlphaMap and other platforms. AlphaMap’s traffic metrics are derived from a combination of Department of Transportation (DOT) strip counter data and proprietary sources. However, DOT data is often older and limited to specific road segments near signalized intersections. While this data provides a reliable foundation, it may not account for recent changes, such as road construction or modifications.

What is Being Done to Address These Discrepancies?

AlphaMap recognizes that some traffic data may currently be up to two years old. To enhance accuracy, we are conducting a rigorous vetting process with multiple data providers to integrate fresher and more comprehensive inputs. These efforts are expected to result in updated traffic count data by year-end, providing users with more precise and actionable metrics for their decision-making needs.
