How to Address Missing, Outdated, or Misplaced Points of Interest in AlphaMap

Points of Interest (POI) data is constantly evolving, and occasional discrepancies can occur. At AlphaMap, we’re dedicated to ensuring accuracy and addressing any issues promptly.

What Happens If a POI Is Outdated, Incorrectly Located, or Missing?

At AlphaMap, we strive to provide the most accurate and up-to-date Points of Interest (POIs) data possible. However, discrepancies can sometimes occur, especially in smaller markets or areas with limited data availability. Here’s an overview of how we manage POI updates and what you can do if you encounter an issue.

How POIs Are Updated

Our POI data typically updates within six months of an opening or closing. To achieve this, we rely on best-in-class providers, including Google and several trusted third-party sources. These providers gather data from various channels, such as retailers themselves and crowd-sourced updates.

In secondary and tertiary markets, however, these updates can take longer. Data in these areas often depends heavily on retailer reports and crowd-sourced contributions, which are sometimes slower to reflect changes than in primary markets.

What Happens When a POI Is Incorrect?

If a POI is outdated or incorrectly labeled, the underlying geofenced data, such as foot traffic metrics, will remain accurate for that location. Even if a retailer has changed or closed, the geofence-based metrics still reflect real-world activity for the physical site.

How We're Improving Accuracy

To address these challenges, we’re developing a system that will allow users to flag POIs they believe to be outdated, incorrect, or closed. This feedback will help us address discrepancies more efficiently and improve data accuracy across all markets.

The Reality of POI Data

No POI provider, not even Google, can guarantee 100% accuracy. There will always be occasional outliers due to the complexities of gathering and maintaining dynamic location data. That said, we work tirelessly to provide the most reliable information possible with the resources available to us.

What You Can Do

If you notice a POI that is outdated, in the wrong location, or missing entirely, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Your input is invaluable in helping us refine our data and serve our users better.
